What to consider when improving comfort with an appropriate glazing specification
A good quotation begins with the property and the way the opening will be used. We look at whole-window performance, low-emissivity glass, warm-edge spacers, gas filling and ventilation. The best answer is not always the same for every room, so it is worth considering privacy, daylight, furniture positions and how often an opening will be used before settling on a specification.

From first enquiry to finished order
Tell us whether the priority is warmth, overheating, noise, safety or a mixture. Orientation and pane size matter, so a specification that suits a shaded bedroom may not be right for a large south-facing opening.
Ask for performance values that relate to the product actually quoted. Centre-pane glass figures and whole-window U-values describe different things and should not be compared as if they were the same measurement.

What does a window U-value measure?
A U-value describes heat transfer through the complete window. Lower figures indicate less heat transfer, but the value must relate to the actual frame, glass, spacer and window configuration being supplied.
Does the glass specification make a difference?
Yes. Coatings, gas filling, spacer bar, pane thickness and laminated or acoustic layers can change thermal, solar, safety and sound performance. The glass should be selected for the room and elevation.
Is triple glazing always worth choosing?
Not always. It can improve thermal performance in a suitable frame, but weight, cost, solar gain, acoustics and the existing property all matter. We compare it with an appropriate double-glazed specification.
